SkyValley Tai Ji Class Offerings 2013

Taijiquan (Tai Chi or Taiji) is the one exercise that can universally help solve our growing health crisis. Large, Medium and Small frame movement systems can benefit a range of body types, abilities and interests. With its gentle strength, Taiji moves us closer to feeling more alive and gives us the ability to realize our greater human potential.

Qigong (Chi Kung)is a practice of aligning breath, movement, and awareness for exercise, healing, and meditation. With roots in Chinese medicine, martial arts and philosophy, qigong is traditionally viewed as a practice to cultivate and balance qi (chi) or what has been translated as "intrinsic life energy”. It is the foundational component for Taiji, Xingyi and Bagua. A wonderful place for beginners to start. Qigong practice unfolds progressively with each movement repeated allowing beginners to ʻget a tasteʼ of the art. From a philosophical perspective qigong is believed to help develop human potential, allow access to higher realms of awareness, and awaken one's "true nature".

The name Xingyiquan is composed of three terms. Quan translates as "fist." Xing means "to form something." Yi, specifically in the word "xingyi" refers to the ability of the mind to create an idea and project it into the body, creating a functional physical form. The physical technique of Xingyi is based completely on efficient use of the chi (qi) for its health aspects and the ability to be martially effective into old age that most of the external martial arts lack. Because of this, Xingyi is capable of making the weak strong and the sick healthy.

Baguazhang (Bagua chang/Pakua chang) has as its root an internal energetic component even more ancient than tai chi chuan. Core practices of Baguazhang were originally developed in ancient monasteries to cultivate health and meditation. More recently, baguazhang has become known as a powerful internal martial art, and it is equally effective as a health and moving meditation practice. Bagua is said to keep the body strongly fluid and the mind sharp.
